Ask Joan: Do you know someone over 60 who inspires you with their love of learning?

Each week in this column, I share thoughts and guidance on navigating life with purpose and vitality. This week, I’m inviting you to share your insights with me. Do you know someone over 60 who inspires you with their love of learning? Maybe it’s a neighbor taking college classes, a grandparent who’s mastered a new language, or a friend who shows their creativity through a beloved hobby. AgeSpan invites you to share their story. We are seeking nominations for our Inspiring Lifelong Learning awards, which will be given out during our Annual Luncheon later this year.
Nominees must be 60 or older and live in one of the 28 communities AgeSpan serves. One honoree will be chosen from each of our five regions: Greater Haverhill, Greater Lawrence, Greater Lowell, Greater Newburyport, and the North Shore.
The Inspiring Lifelong Learning Awards will be presented at our Annual Luncheon on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the beautiful Blue Ocean Event Center in Salisbury. It’s sure to be an uplifting day, with Dr. Lane A. Glenn, President of Northern Essex Community College, joining us as a special guest speaker. We are thrilled to spotlight older adults who are not only enriching their own lives but also inspiring those around them to keep learning and dreaming.
As we mark Older Americans Month, and this year’s theme: “Flip the Script on Aging,” let’s celebrate those in our community who defy outdated notions of aging and remind us that curiosity is ageless.
Nominations are open now through June 16, 2025. You can share someone’s story at www.agespan.org/inspiring-lifelong-learning.
