Volunteer with the SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) program

Become a certified SHINE Counselor and make a real difference in your community! Provide Medicare beneficiaries in the Merrimack Valley, Cape Ann and North Shore with clear, unbiased, and confidential guidance to help them navigate their health insurance options with confidence.

SHINE Volunteer Role: 

The role of a SHINE volunteer is to help people make sense of their Medicare choices. You’ll explain coverage options in clear, simple terms, compare plans side by side, answer questions and give beneficiaries the confidence to choose the coverage that best fits their budget and health care needs.

Program Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain a SHINE counseling certification by following program guidelines
  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Attend trainings (held once per year in the Spring)
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Computer and typing skills
