The COA is also the Senior Center. Congregate lunch meals are offered at the Center Mondays through Fridays. A two-day notice is required and a donation is suggested. The Outreach staff is available for home visits and will inform seniors of the programs and services offered through the COA and other agencies.

Volunteer programs include the Friendly Visitor Program, Telephone Reassurance Program, Food Shopper Program, and Medical Transportation Program. Other programs include, but are not limited to, a monthly men’s group, health clinics, health insurance counseling, meals on wheels, exercise classes, lecture series, and numerous activities and events.

The COA offers two facilitated support groups which meet monthly, one for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementias and a bereavement support group open to seniors who have experienced loss but the group is open to all adults. The bereavement support group meets at the Billerica Public Library the first Thursday of the month.

Their Respite Companion Care Program provides companionship and supervisory care in the home. Companions can prepare snacks and light meals, engage elders in conversation and provide socialization, assistance and support (no lifting or personal care). Emergency services can be contacted if necessary. Companions can also take clients out on errands, for appointments and visits. Respite care can be provided occasionally or on a regularly scheduled basis. Hourly rate with a 2 hour minimum; services are available days, evenings and weekends.
