Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. (GLCAC)

GLCAC is a private non-profit agency designated as the official federal and state anti-poverty agency for the Greater Lawrence area. It sponsors many programs to assist individuals and families by providing a comprehensive system of education, training, support and resources. Clients range in age from infants to senior citizens; some individuals receive services from one program while others participate in several programs. Programs include early learning services, health and education services, and social services.

This agency administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Eligibility for this fuel assistance program is based on total gross annual income for all adult household members and family size. It makes payments towards the heating bills to the primary heat source vendor (oil, propane, wood, coal dealer, gas or electric utility). Special provisions are made for those whose heat is included in their rent and those living in subsidized housing. It also administers the weatherization (WAP) and heating system repair (HEARTWAP) programs.

Their Community Service Center, located on the second floor, helps individuals and families with a variety of common and uncommon challenges. This agency provides information and referral to employers, assistance in finding housing, notarizations, health referrals, obtaining personal records from public entities, referrals to other GLCAC programs and outside service agencies, signing up for health care, help completing applications and forms, credit repair and identity theft assistance.

The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council provides assistance to consumers to help resolve disputes between consumers and businesses. It is funded through a grant from the Office of the Attorney General. This program assist any resident of Andover, Danvers, Lawrence, Methuen, Middleton, No. Andover and Peabody.
