McLean Hospital – Geriatric Neuropsychiatry

The Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Unit (GNU) is a short-term inpatient unit for the evaluation and treatment of patients with disorders of cognitive functioning, mood or reality testing that are often accompanied by medical disorders. The GNU uses an intensive multi-disciplinary approach to stabilize patients rapidly and implement treatment plans that maximize their cognitive and emotional functioning. This is a separate unit from the general population so that patients may receive highly-specific treatment for their diagnoses. Staff includes psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, internists, social workers, occupational therapists and nurses all of whom specialize in geriatrics.
