Remembering Chaz Rudich

In Memory of Chaz Rudich, Director of AgeSpan’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chaz Rudich, Director of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program at AgeSpan, leaving a profound void in our communityChaz dedicated his career to protecting the dignity, rights, and well-being of older adults living in long-term care facilities across our region.

Starting as an Ombudsman volunteer with us in 2011, he was a fierce advocate and a compassionate listener. Someone who understood that behind every case was a person, a family, and a story that mattered.

His leadership was defined not only by his expertise, but by his unwavering commitment to his team of staff and volunteers. Chaz believed deeply in the power of mentorship, collaboration, and shared purpose. He invested in his team, stood beside them in challenging moments, and celebrated their successes. Under his guidance, the Ombudsman Program was strengthened by a culture of integrity, professionalism, and heart.

Chaz’s impact extended far beyond his formal role. He was a passionate champion of AgeSpan’s LGBTQ+ initiatives and played a transformative role in elevating the LGBTQ+ Aging Conference, now known as Pride and Progress, to a whole new level. Through his vision and dedication, the conference grew in stature and influence, drawing speakers and attendees from across the country and around the world. He helped create a space where older LGBTQ+ adults felt seen, valued, and affirmed, advancing inclusion in meaningful and lasting ways.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chaz will be remembered for his warmth, steady presence, and unwavering moral compass. He believed deeply that every older adult deserves to be heard, respected, and safe, and he worked tirelessly to make that belief a reality.

While our organization feels this loss deeply, we recognize that the loss is most profound for those closest to him — his family, loved ones, and dear friends who knew him beyond his professional achievements. Our hearts are with them as they navigate this immeasurable grief.

Chaz’s legacy lives on in the stronger protections, higher standards, inclusive practices, and culture of advocacy he helped build. He strengthened AgeSpan’s mission and touched countless lives along the way.
