May 10, 2023

On Tuesday, May 16, Boston University School of Public Health Professor Harold D. Cox will deliver a keynote address at the Massachusetts Senior Medicare Patrol Program’s 10th Statewide Conference “Breaking Barrier for More Equitable Healthcare.”

The daylong, virtual event is designed for professionals in the aging services network and the healthcare industry. It will highlight the importance of engaging and including diverse perspectives and voices in the healthcare delivery system and provide a platform to explore new ideas, share best practices, and learn from renowned professionals in the field.

We are honored to have Harold D. Cox, a professor and former associate dean at the Boston University School of Public Health, as our keynote speaker. Professor Cox has extensive experience in direct services, administration, and advocacy in a variety of public health care settings including developmental disabilities, HIV/AIDS, and governmental public health. He was the first director of the Activist Lab at BU which engages the school and communities in real world advocacy to drive innovation and lasting improvements in the health of our local, regional, and global communities.

“Only through deliberate inclusion can equitable and quality healthcare be achieved,” said MA SMP Director Lucilia Prates-Ramos. “This year’s conference will highlight and explore the vital importance of engaging and including diverse perspectives and voices in the healthcare delivery system.”

This conference offers a range of workshops, including understanding consumer rights to accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, recognizing demographic disparities in the patient experience and how to address them, and cost-saving programs for Medicare beneficiaries.
